Day 29 – 24 January 2013. Iguassu Falls – Argentina.

Phew it's hot. Have I mentioned that yet. 7.45. Hot. 8.30 hotter. Now on huge queue for train around to Devils throat at the falls. A Garganta del Diablo. It's 11.00 now. So hot. My plan to be early is foiled by many others with same idea. So writing while I wait.

Awoke for breaky at8. A little FB prior to that. Power went off during breaky. John not happy. I got a REAL POT of tea. Fresh fruit, toast and jam. The guys from US have been helpful in sorting out what to do. Plans for Devils throat walk the Ecologica boat ride back. Then I will do the superior trail. Then I'm done. Given yesterday's experience the trick is to take your time. NO RUSHING. I have 5 hours before Juan picks me up. So should have time to look eat melt. Look some more. Then off to animal rehab place this arvo and maybe back for full moon at falls tonight.

Got sore feet yesterday. Back to Keens today.

John the host used to be a photographer. Interesting fella. Is pretty opinionated about many things. But seems to have it pretty good here. Wife and two women working that I have seen.

The butterflies are everywhere. All colours shapes and sizes but impossible to catch on camera.

I managed to catch the train to Devil’s Throat, do the walk take photos, see some wildlife and catch second half of “jungle boat” deal – Ecologica – a slow raft back to the main part of the park from The Devil’s Throat. I lashed out on a buffet lunch, with air conditioning, yummy parilla and some salad.

Then finished off Iguassu with Superior Walk along the top of several of the falls.

Juan picked me up as arranged, and now sitting waiting for the English tours of an Animal Refuge 0 Guira Oga. Mack and Paul said it was good – only costs $5.
Back home via the Supermercado to buy some acqua and pepsi. Home to Secret Garden, where a new couple have arrived – Tania and Dave from Genessee in Colorado.  Mack and Paul arrived bak from their Jungle adventure, and we said and chatted with Rosina and John over drinks and nibbles again…went for dinner with Tania and Dave to Aqva – yummy prawn and zucchini fettucine with a Calaprese salad.

After catching the train, I headed for the Devil's Throat - Garganta del Diablo.

A turtle on a rock.
A turtle and a catfish fighting over some crumbs a visitor threw in the water.

This little blue guy again...still trying for a decent photo.

A lizard.

Catfish hanging about under the walkway.

view of the 'calm' waters above the falls.

Then there is the falls, not much to announce the huge drop.

The spray goes up a long way into the air.

Some old walkways/infrastructure of some form, with falls in the back.

The water just literally falls over the edge.

down and down, over a long distance.

Up clsoe, can se whiskers and eyes.

More of the gentle water pre falls.

Some flowers on the trail.

Butterflies were everywhere but it was almost impossible to photograph.

These photos are from the inflatable raft trip back from the Devils Throat to Tres Maria. It was flat and quiet and nice. Depth of the water is only about 1-1.5 metres.

A little turtle on a stick near the edge.

A caiman under a walkway.

Beautifully coloured lizard on the path.

View of the falls from Superior walk, the second walk I did today.

The falls just stretch on and on.

Amazing how the vegetation sits in amongst it all.

After the park, I visited the animal refuge. Had to wait about 45 minutes till 4.00 for the English tour.

Macaw

Some cat creature. He was hiding in the back of enclosure and I had to take this through a hollow log.

Turtle with whiskers.

Again another turtle, orangey colours were great.

A Harpy Eagle - I think, one of the many raptors they are training to hunt and kill again.

Another huge eagle.

Capybary. Note the webbed feet, they swim underwater, there was one on our raft trip, but I missed seeing it.

That's the place.

Back at Secret Garden, this is the common area, where John hosts drinks and nibbles at 7.00 each evening. L-R - Me Mack, Paul, Tania, Dave.

This was first thing in the morning, the queue for the train around to Gargantua del Diablo.

Me somewhere along the walks.

On board the raft with jungle behind.
